Dessert and Discussion: Media Production with Jessica Reinis

What a great success tonight’s event was!

On Tuesday, November 16th, SWL hosted a fabulous networking event with Barnard Alum Jessica Reinis ’09.

Jessica Reinis graduated from Barnard in 2009 with a major in Political Science and Music. She is currently the Production Coordinator, and Assistant to the Executive Producer of Special Events at ABC News. Previously, she worked as a Production Assistant at a production company for the Discovery Channel and the Travel Channel, among others. During college, she interned at The Early Show on CBS, and The Today Show on NBC.

Jessica shared with us her insights on professional life, as well as preprofressional life. Having worked at several internships during her time at Barnard, Jessica gave advice to those of us who currently find ourselves mid internship (or even mid internship search!). Jessica drove home the idea that interns must always be willing to go above and beyond to stand out. Never turn down an opportunity to gain experience, or contacts within the field.

I think Jessica gave hope to many of us who are not fortunate enough to have personal or familial contacts within our fields of interest. She stressed that she started out in her career with little to no contacts, but was able to leave all of her internships with a new contact whom she had impressed with her positive attitude and intense drive.

Jessica is a great example of why Barnard women should take advantage of all the opportunities NYC has to offer (as well as the Office of Career Development!). Jessica was such a pleasure to talk to, and this event was just one of many future networking programs SWL has planned for the school year!
